There really wasn't much competition this year for the "Shoe of the Year" award. Creative visionary Kanye West took the stage tonight in NYC to receive the award at the Footwear News' Achievement Awards ceremony, which honors the footwear industry's cream of the crop.
Looking back it was only in February that Kanye West revealed the Adidas Yeezy 750 Boosts at the Grammys, but the sneaker culture has been craving over them ever since. Kanye hooking up his close friends, industry partners, and influential family members all played a role in promoting the sneaker, crashing servers, and causing such high demand that the Yeezy's resale value is at astronomical heights. The Adidas Yeezy commotion was sustained throughout the rest of the year by strategically timed releases for the Yeezy 350 Boost in June, August, and November, ensuring that the Yeezy brand would never leave the spotlight.
The Adidas Yeezy Boosts have been among the staple choice of footwear among top pop stars, fashionistas, and sneakerheads. This is Adidas' second time winning the honor, the Adidas Stan Smith was awarded the honor last year. Adidas seems to be heading in the right direction with their brands' heritage and progressive designs coming together to reach new levels. It's about time someone gave Nike a run for their money!
