True to its name, the Pegasus 2005 made its debut in the mid-2000s era. While visually reminiscent of its 2002 predecessors rather than the Pegasus 2004, which opted for a fully perforated construction over angular breathability lines at the mid-foot, the performance of the 2K5 model remained faithful to its lineage. This consistency has been a hallmark of the Nike Air Pegasus line since its inception in 1983.

Featuring full-length Air units, the Pegasus 2005 offered a smooth and cushioned ride, enhanced by the inclusion of a softer lateral crash pad introduced in this iteration. Mesh bases not only ensured optimal breathability but also contributed to keeping the shoe lightweight. Reflective accents at the forefoot and heel tips enabled athletes, including Olympic gold medalist Bernard Lagat, to train even in low-light conditions
